Suicide loss survivors share a singular bond. Although each survivor’s situation is unique, they tend to experience similar feelings, questions, and stages of grief. Support groups provide a good opportunity to meet others who understand and can result in deep friendships. Alliance of Hope provides an online forum for survivors to connect.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is and organization dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. They have compiled a list of support groups around the world as a public service. International listings are available for Australia, Brazil, Canada and China.

CancerCare

CancerCare is a national organization that provides free, professional support services and information to help people manage the emotional, practical and financial challenges of cancer. They provide online, telephone and in-person support groups for individuals who have lost loved ones to cancer.

Center For Family Services

Center for Family Services is a New Jersey-based organizations that serves families residing in Camden and Gloucester County. Their support is not free, however they provide a wide range of counseling services. They recommend contacting their Access Center for more information.

EVERMORE

EVERMORE is dedicated to improving life for bereaved families by fostering hope and solidarity through the sharing of stories and resources; empowering communities to better serve families; and changing how our nation serves and engages with bereaved families. They have compiled a list of useful nonprofits, self-help groups, and online forums.

Grief.com has compiled an ever-growing directory of free in-person local grief support groups. Each group listed provides a summary of the support group’s focus, its location, and a phone number you can call to learn more. Grief.com also provides other resources, such as grief webinars and online workshops.

Grieving.com

Grieving.com is one of the oldest grief support communities on the internet. Founded in 1997, it now supports a quarter million people annually from over 100 countries, from all walks of life. The focus is to provide grief support via community interaction.

Parents of Murdered Children

Parents of Murdered Children is US National Organization that provides support to friends and families who have died by violence. They have chapters in over 20 states and have a mission to make a difference through ongoing emotional support, education, prevention, advocacy, and awareness.

PA 2-1-1

PA211 is a statewide collaborative for health and human service information for Pennsylvanians. The website and 211 phone number will link PA residents with human services throughout the state.

Survivors of Homicide

Survivors of Homicide is a charity group located in Connecticut. The objective of their monthly support groups is to provide a non-judgmental safe haven where people can share their feelings, joys, heartaches, challenges and experiences with others who understand. All meeting communication is confidential with the exception of public information.

The Compassionate Friends

The Compassionate Friends is a self-help organization offering friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved families that have experienced the death of a child. They offer over 600 chapters throughout the world.

The Dinner Party

The Dinner Party is a worldwide community of 20- and 30-somethings who have each experienced the loss of a parent, partner, child, sibling, or close friend. They screen, train and onboard a growing network of more than 300 peer hosts, and connect them to 10 to 15 would-be Dinner Partiers nearby, who share a similar age and loss experience.
