For millennia, humans have used storytelling as a way to make sense of the world around us. Research shows that storytelling plays an important role in coping with fundamental human experiences like death, dying, grief, and bereavement.1 Our stories connect us with our loved ones and with one another and serve as an important reminder that we are not alone.
Click on the images below to read the stories of people who have been confronted with the death of a loved one at some point during their medical training. Storytellers are given the space to reflect on their experiences and freely express their thoughts, feelings, and insights. It is important to note that all names of individuals within these stories have been changed to protect their privacy, unless otherwise specified. Depending on an author’s preference for anonymity, other identifying information may be changed as well.
We are always looking for new Storytellers to add their voices to our community.
